The time spent on the internet

Everyday there are a lot of people who use the internet and log onto it daily as it helps them with things they didn’t know, and with everything around the world happening so fast, the internet is very useful. But being on the internet for long periods of time, comes with huge negative side effects, like having a low self-esteem, as individuals will start comparing themselves to other people and stop focusing on their own lives (World Health Organisation,2016). Anxiety, not having enough sleep as well as stress are all things that would have begun from being on the internet or spending too much time on the web. Anxiety has a huge effect on the way in which individuals deal with uncomfortable situations or challenging situations in life. Anxiety is like a mosquito that won’t go away at night when you’re trying to get yourself some sleep. Depression gives individuals a low self-esteem, with things like alcohol and substance abuse being at a peak because individuals are not happy themselves, others going as far as committing suicide (UNICEF, 2017). When individuals are not confident in who they are, and when they have a low self-esteem, it is because they are insecure and are not sure about themselves. At this point individuals start to feel like they are not enough and that they are always looked over or looked down on, because of who they are.  E.g., long hours spent on the internet means that individuals are watching porn, or even getting themselves in dodgy things that are unnecessary, which go onto individuals living fake lives, as the internet would influence them a lot. They would start to pretend like they are happy when they are not, when deep down they are yearning for that acknowledgement from the universe.

Going once, going twice, sold.

The final price, is where the estimate will be set on what the value of the auctioned item is. This is the price that will be set by the auctioneer and individuals who are interested in the product that’s being auctioned can purchase it or can simply not take part, as they may not be interested in that present moment. If a lot of people want an item, meaning it’s in demand, individuals will them have to start bidding at a high estimated price (Bridget Galton, 2013). Items that are not in demand will be sold cheaper, and many of those items are vintage pieces and if a collector is present, they will them bargain from those products. Risk management is important in auctions, as it states whether or not if an individual should continue bidding and spending their money. Individuals who have a good risk management system will know when to stop and which items to bid on. (Bridget Galton, 2013). In auctions, individuals should know the agreement they are getting themselves into, and should be aware of all the extra charges that will be put in place, this allows them not to be blind-sided but rather aware of everything that happens in these auctions.  

BAD ETIQUETTE

First impressions last and the importance of doing the right thing and speaking the way, counts for a lot, especially in the world that we live in today. This is important because this is what people will remember or see in their heads when they think of you or meet you.

The IIE (2021) argues that digital etiquette is the behaviour in which Individuals needs to have when they are on the internet as they are sharing the internet with other people, so the safety for all users is important. With this being said not everyone who uses the internet adheres to this, as there are so many people who don’t know how to behave when they are on the internet. There are a lot of good examples of bad digital etiquette but here’s a list of 10 of the most common examples of digital etiquette; the IIE (2021) argues that the common examples are; don’t type in caps because it will seem like you are aggressive, don’t spam because it uses up space and slows down the internet, don’t use offensive language because it will come across as rude, don’t steal other people identity because it is a crime, don’t distribute illegal material because it is a crime, don’t flood because it slows down the internet, don’t expect a response right away because that shows you are impatient and that you are not considerate about what other are doing. The IIE (2021) argues that you should not broadcast, people might think you are not real, don’t reply all to protect yourself, don’t ask a question that can be found on the internet rather ask questions that can create conversation rather than questions that already have answers and will end conversations.

In conclusion the importance of caring yourself in the right manner when using the internet is essential because there are many other people using the internet with you.

TRENDS IN COMMUNICATION AND MARKETING

The IIE (2021) argues that digital communication is when there is an exchange of communication electronically. Before communication was through telephones and then there were smart phones, now there is zoom and skype. This has allowed people to communicate with each other using the internet, and it has changed the way people communicate because you can actually see the other person rather than just hearing their voice.

As stated in the introduction, the ways in which people communicate are the same, because the world has changed and more technology is being used, this will change and evolve communication and the way people use the internet. The trends this year were different than any other year because a lot of people were using the internet. The corona virus forced us to stay and work from home so this meant that people were on their phones a lot more (Charlie Carroll, 2020). Tik Tok changed video content and brand transparency also changed, all of the trends this year have caused dramatical change. The 5 Digital marketing trends that were booming in 2021 have to be; savvy marketers using multiple platforms e.g. more sites like amazon and other social media platforms being used not just google, target audiences constantly being reached e.g. the engagement between marketers and general public will bring marketers a lot of income, PPC marketers improving strategy e.g. PPC will think more strategically than ever, the rise of chatbots e.g. chatbots interacts with consumers and speaks to consumers as if she is an actual person, rise in sales for chatbots will increase and people increasing content in market game e.g. marketing teams will go head to head to see who has the best marketing strategy.  

In conclusion the year of 2021 has brought the increase in number of people who use the internet and those who are always on their phone, and this has brought lots of income for marketing companies and consumers have had to spend more because they are constantly on the internet where data is expensive.

DIGITAL LITERATE

A lot of people explain and define digital literacy in their own way, even though the definition is self-explanatory it is a lot more complex than a lot of people would think. The IIE (2021) argues that digital literacy is the act or ability in which an individual is able to use information to create their own content using technology or the internet. In digital literacy there are 5 skills that an individual will have that will indicate that they are able to use this information properly. Those skills are; being able to use information to communicate with other people on different kinds of levels and on different formats, being able to use different kinds of technology to value and scrutinise the value of the information given, being able to know the relationship that is there provided with the right information along with being able to work with others with that information given and being able to share that knowledge with the general public.

In conclusion the IIE (2021) argues that acquiring such a skill is important, as it can be used in school and also when individuals start working. But such a skill requires you to know how to use a computer.

We live in a world that is forever changing and a world that is always revolving, and the importance of keeping up and not getting left behind has become really important. And for this to happen it has to be implemented and emphasized in schools. Students should be given real life lessons instead of being taught science and mathematics, those subjects are really important especially when it comes to choosing a good career choice, but the question is do they really teach a child about what life outside of school is?

Being books smart is a good thing but being street smart is even better, now just imagine a generation of young people that are street smart and book smart. That would be something that changes the world even in its fast pace state. The IIE (2021) argues that the ability to adapt and learn in a fast pace world or environment is known as a fluency skill, this skill has to do with being able to adapt with what is in front of you and what is around you. When it comes there are 5 elements that play a big role, those 5 elements are solution fluency, creativity fluency, collaboration fluency, media fluency and information fluency. The IIE (2021) argues that these 5 elements are the key as they enable students to think outside of the box and enables them to start thinking in an unconventional manner because that’s the route in which the world is going. E.g. if a student finds themselves being thrown in the deep end at work, and is told to lead a team in a department that they are not familiar with, they will be able to lead the team because they will have the skill to use solution fluency. The individual will not panic or look for excuses, but they will rather look for solutions when they are in such a situation, they will speak fluently and will have the know-how on how to lead, because they would have gained those skills while they were in school. The skills all play a certain role in helping individuals understand the world that they live in, and also help in ensuring that they give themselves the best head start when they are done with school and have to step into the rea world.

In conclusion when in school students should not study hard just to get marks so that they can get accepted into university or college, they should accumulate skills that will help make their lives easier. Because the harsh reality is that not everyone gets the opportunity of going to university because of a number of reasons, but if students equip themselves with fluency skills, they will be able to face the world head-on because they will be able to deal with any given situation.

Divide in facilities
Meredale is a developed area, and has good infrastructure and good transport systems. There is a clinic, a mall, a primary school and a correctional services institution. And it also has a park for outdoor recreation.

Socio-Economic Divide
There is access to the internet and free Wi-Fi that can be used for free at the mall (South Gate Mall) and people use it for the internet and social media. Meredale already has fibre installed, but not everyone in Meredale has fibre in their homes, they mostly use the internet when they at the mall cause its free for everyone to use. Meredale has few internet cafes available and most that reside in Meredale are the older generation so the use of the internet is used by the youth who go to the mall.

Digital Divide in Content
Information is very difficult to access despite fibre being installed in the area. Internet access in the area isn’t updated and people who try getting information on the area or accessing the internet will have problems.
